Grosse Pointe Garden Society Episode 2 Recap ‘Pests’: Weeds

The garden society had a weed infestation, and not just amongst their plants. Catherine’s now homeless ex lover Gary wormed his way into her house, via her husband Tucker, carrying a gun that he said he could not use. Tucker fell for Gary’s manipulation and invited him to stay at their pool house.
It drove Catherine mad, of course, especially since she knew that Gary was there with the express purpose of ruining her life, but she could not yet figure out how to get rid of him. Finding out that his wife was pregnant only intensified her feelings of guilt. Eventually, she came to the conclusion that there was only one way to deal with her problem, and she waited for her husband to come home so they could talk.
Alice, for her part, was still intent on getting justice for her murdered dog, much to the chagrin of her husband Doug. Doug was capitulating under pressure from his family. He was thinking of getting a real job. He was seriously considering accepting his parents’ offer for he and his wife to live on their rental property rather than rent. The loss of Alice’s income and insurance was hard on the two of them.
Alice promised Doug she would find the money. Her first stop was Mrs. Hollister, to whom she apologised and asked for her job back. When that did not work, she offered to use her connection to get her son Peyton into Michigan University. The offer was only so she could search Peyton’s room in an effort to find the gun she believed was used in poor Molly’s murder. She already found the bullet, she simply needed to match it to the gun.
A jerk he may have been, but Peyton did not kill Molly. Himself a dog owner, he told Alice that the bullet she found was for a handgun; they only had hunting rifles in the house. Back at her house, Alice found a handgun amongst Doug’s things.
Did Doug kill Molly? Was he resentful of Alice’s treatment of Molly as her child whilst refusing to start a family for the two of them? Was there more to this story that Alice has yet to uncover? Perhaps she was wrong again and Doug was not a dog killer.
One other thing that Alice did not know, but which Brett’s ex-wife Melissa cracked, was Brett’s attraction to Alice. They have been friends for a long time, Alice and Brett, and as far as we could tell, they had only ever been friends. When Brett asked Melissa why she left him, she pointed out that he left her first. Melissa felt that she never stood a chance with Alice there in Brett’s life. It was a small moment of calm and poignant memory after the exes blew up over their son’s family history project.
Meanwhile Birdie’s biological son kept trying to reach her. She had been doing her best to avoid young Ford, but he was persistent. He pretended that he got someone pregnant so he could weasel some money from Birdie, then proceeded to use it to purchase an Xbox. Joel returned it to Birdie.
When did Joel and Birdie’s relationship begin? With the quick back and forths, it was not really clear. But the relationship was deep enough so that when Birdie found herself in trouble for murder, she went to Joel and told him what happened. She showed him the gardening tools that were used in the murder; he had these taken to the police station (it was unclear what reason he used to take them). He then left the phone in a shop to make it seem as though the owner was still alive and simply waylaid it there. Hmm those stores have security cameras. This is a bit risky, no?

🔍I’m loving Birdie’s relationship with her housekeeper Olga.
🔍The community quilt and the ladies gossipping about things that should be none of their business was, well, rather familiar to those of us who grew up in certain small towns.
🔍Marilyn was planning to dig up a koi pond, which meant they would have to dig up and move the body.
🔍'Quiche' was how they now referred to the body, to lengthen this mystery.
